After watching sailboats develop into modified keel or fin keel designs, Bob realized that there were no boats being manufactured with the traditional specifications of a full keel vessel. He therefore decided that was the niche he wanted to pursue. He borrowed money to purchase molds which he would use to build a 26 feet boat with a beam. The Island Packet shipyard is found in Largo, Florida. Since 1979, they’ve made more than 2500 boats in 26 different models.
