Superior Caboose Shipping by Dan
While most people don’t think of train transport as the common way of moving freight or even personal traveling, trains are still extremely popular today. Heavy Haulers transports train cars and cabooses, like the one Dan Chapman, out of our Fort Lauderdale, Florida, office, did with expert precision.
Edwards Airforce Base needed an inoperable caboose hauled on a short trip through California. While the trip may be short, preparation and attention to detail is always on point. Every step of securement for the caboose is the same whether it’s for a short transport, like this one, or for a cross-country caboose shipment.
Caboose Dimensions:
- L: 43.00'
- W: 11.00'
- H: 10.50'
- Weight: 65,000.00 lbs
Anything over 8’6” wide is considered an oversize load. So, Dan also had to obtain the proper permits for a legal Calornia transport. He also did a route survey to ensure that the route was clear of any obstacles or issues that might cause safety issues or delays.
Once Dan planned everything out, he got a crane crew together to load the caboose onto a step deck trailer.
How to Load an Inoperable Caboose Onto a Step Deck Trailer
In order to avoid overheight limitations, which can cause issues when going under bridges and powerlines, Dan opted for the team to take the caboose of the wheels and transport them separately. He contracted an exceptional and highly-rated rigging company to come out and load the caboose.
Dan oversaw each step as the rigging secured the caboose to raise it off the rails and onto the step deck trailer. Everything went smoothly and according to plan.
Once the team safely loaded the caboose, they secured it with ratchet straps for the journey. Dan double and triple-checked the caboose transport before giving the driver the okay to embark on the 105.8 mile journey from Edwards Air Force Base to Perris, California.
