What is Line Haul Trucking?
In linehaul (or line haul) trucking, truck drivers typically travel the same route between cities that can be up to one thousand miles away. Although many line haul drivers work smaller routes that allow them to get home every night, if they travel long distances on their route they will be gone for two or three days at a time.
The responsibilities of the line haul trucker vary by company and recruiter. Some companies define it as traveling from one city to another and back again, which works well for those who would like to get home every night. Other companies define line haul trucking as going from Point A to Point B, which then requires them to gain freight or travel back home with an empty trailer. These kinds of routes can be from one city to another, a city to a port or train, or any combination of locations that might transport equipment using a different mode of travel.
