What is Live Load Trucking?
When you do a live load shipment, you are taking an empty trailer to the place of origin. While you wait, loaders put merchandise or equipment into the trailer. Many truckers do not like live loads because it means they have to spend two or three hours waiting at the site until the loaders have put all of the cargo into the trailer. On the plus side, most live loads take less than two hours because most freight shippers only get a two-hour window to load the trailer before they must pay a high hourly fee to the trucking company.
There are times that live load trucking is preferable to the typical drop 'n' hook method, where drivers simply enter a docking area and pick up containers that are already loaded and ready. If the shipment they need to pick up is buried behind other transport containers, drivers have to wait for a warehouse team to move other containers to reach their load, which can take much longer than two hours. This is when the live load method becomes a more favorable option. Call for a free shipping estimate! (800) 908-6206
